TANAHIS: Project Sagip: Information

TANAY NATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL
Project: S A G I P
S - agipin natin
A - ting mag-aaral
G - abayang
I - pagpatuloy kanilang
P - ag-aaral
I. Rationale
Dropping out of school is an issue faced by many teens today. They quit school for many reasons. Some of them drop-out in school because classes were not interesting;missed too many days to catch up; entered high school poorly prepared by their earlier schooling; they were not motivated to work hard; they were failing; they left to get a job; they left to become parents; and they left to take care of their relatives.
More and more students drop out each year. The alarming rate of drop out led them to a bleak future wherein such incident requires the attention and immediate action of various school authorities.

Some of the reasons why students drop his/her schooling.
Problem on the subject,or to her teacher.

Peer pressure

Broken Family/Family Problem
Poverty/Financial Problem

Early Marriage
Sexually Abuse

According to Dr. Jacqueline Badcock, UN resident coordinator in the Philippines, underscored that the bigger problem in the education situation is the increasing drop-out rate in elementary levels,as reported by the National Statistical Coordination Board (NSCB). Based on the 2006 to 2007 NSCB Statistics, the drop out rate increased from 8.6 percent to 9 percent, far from the 2006 target of decreasing it to 5.5 percent and 2009 target of 4.3 percent.
“A targeted program that will identify causes and solution for high drop out rate is urgently needed to reverse this alarming trend”,Badcock said.

Tanay National High School was also affected on the problem of the drop out rate.
It was been reported last school year 2009-2010 the over-all number of students was 3,385 and the number of drop out was 355 or 10.49%. According to the report many of the students dropped due to early employment/job opportunity; sickness/illness; change of residence/transfer of residence; financial probem; family problem; early marriage ;etc.

Based on the result of the Monitoring of the Drop out Rate, School Year 2010-2011
As compared last school year the total number of students enrolled was declined with the total number of 3,126 in which their was a decreased by 259 or 7.65%, while the number of drop-out this school year was 293 as compared to last year, their was also a decreased by 62 or .28%.

Based on this comparative study their was a positive result on the drop-out rate even though we cannot force the student not to stop schoolling, still the number of drop-out was lessen, unliked last school year 2009-2010.
According to the report SY-2010-2011the reason why the students dropped was due to illness / sickness /poor health, change of residence/transfer of residence, family problem, financial problem, poverty, early marriage and the last was deceased due to accident.

In line with this problem, the Values Education Department proposed a project which called SAGIP. It’s objectives is to decreased the number of drop out rate for four consecutive years; to help the students not to drop schooling and guide them to continue pursuing their dreams and aspiration in life.
Through the proper coordination of students, parents, and teachers this problem on drop out rate can be resolved.
